I generally don’t do a lot of sketch covers. The paper is often difficult to work with, and unforgiving to say the least. However, I think I did decently with this one. My biggest challenge with this was how to interpret the Spidey-Sense. Most artists use the black thunderbolt crown thing, and it works great for them. However, it wouldn’t translate as well for me, or at least it hasn’t in the past. I decided to go back and see the original Ditko version, and this cover concept struck me. That’s also why I did the round Ditko glasses and sweatervest. It all seemed to flow together. With the exception of the accidental small smear of black ink on his cheek, I’m pleased with how this turned out. 🙂
Just an incredibly complimentary review of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? #23. The last line is incredibly blush worthy. However, let me be the first to tell you that this was not a solo project. This was a team effort with Blond the Colorist, Richard Starkings, Bryce Carlson, and the amazing staff and support of BOOM! Studios. I was just lucky enough to be a part of this experience.
